WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE IF YOU COULD SHUT DOWN

ALL THE NOISE, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND FOCUS ON AN ENERGISED QUALITY OF LIFE?

A cancer diagnosis somehow gets hijacked by how other people feel when they hear about your situation, and you are left with thoughts and feelings that may not even be yours.

Your super brain has picked up on all those words (a lot of it negative) and is holding onto those negative messages. When you are adjusting to diagnosis the last thing you need to hear is someone else’s story, and before you realise it you have been dragged into listening to stories about someone else’s cancer experience. What’s worse is a lot of the time people are using language associated with winning a war.

The hostile language that bombs a conversation draws you into the cancer drama, if you don’t know how to stop it. People that you love don’t know what to say or tell you about a friend of theirs. Not really what you need, but you sit quietly and listen, because “They’re just trying to help.” You keep listening to the stories about ‘fighting to survive’ and the shrapnel from the blast breaks any hope of a peaceful cancer experience.

The emotional bloodshed begins, and that’s in the first 24 hours. Win, battle, beating, losing, winning, fighting, beating the fight, winning the fight, losing the battle, winning the battle, terminal, returned, cancer free, remission, cancer sufferer, cancer victim, cancer survivor, cancer lifer, stricken with, suffering from, succumbed to, she lost her brave fight, she battled til, she was strong until, cancer was the winner, she’ll pull through.

I FELT LIKE THE WAR HAD BEGUN.

So I decided to do cancer my own way.

Create a way that I could transform myself, and the people I love. I became so confident that I could address any situation, with my doctors, my nurses, my friends and family. I stood up for myself and made sure that people understood me. Cancer is going to change the rest of your life and, if you want – it will change you in a really good way. When you fall into rhythm with cancer only then can you see and truly appreciate the love you have for yourself and the people around you.

You’ve got this!
