"Thank you for your inspiration and drive to improve the life of fellow cancer travellers. You have such potential to change the current paradigm and thinking. I feel blessed to have met you."

Dr Leon Clark
Chairman & CEO Adventist HealthCare

"I’d felt a bit of a fish out of water sharing with others how enlivened and motivated I was by my cancer experience until I met Mel. I appreciated all the ‘pink love’ that had been thrown my way but time with Mel, was like being truly seen. Mel's approach of inspiring a confident cancer conversation is truly uplifting and I’m so enthused to meet a kindred spirit and to know that the warm wisdom I experienced in her will be shared with so many who will benefit."

Fiona Thomas
Diagnosed 22 May, 2015

After being touched by cancer in both my personal and professional life, I am very excited to see the attitude towards people living through cancer change. The Cancer Confidence Movement is seriously about to shake things up. Mel’s creativity and boldness for life encourages a new way of thinking, a shift in attitudes; and a sense of community for everyone having a cancer experience.

WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE IF YOU COULD SHUT DOWN ALL THE NOISE, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR CANCER EXPERIENCE AND YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE?

A cancer diagnosis somehow gets hijacked by what everyone else thinks and feels, and you are left with thoughts and feelings that may not even be yours. Your superbrain has picked up all those words ( a lot of it negative) and is holding onto it. When you are adjusting to diagnosis the last thing you need to hear is someone else’s story, but before you realise it you are listening to something that has nothing to do with your cancer experience.

The hostile language that bombs a conversations draws you into the cancer drama, if you don’t know how to stop it. People that you love don’t know what to say so they tell you about someone else who has cancer. Not really what you need, but you sit quietly and listen, because “They’re just trying to help.” You keep listening to the stories about ‘fighting to survive’ and the shrapnel for the blast breaks any hope of a peaceful cancer experience.

The emotional bloodshed begins, and that’s in the first 24 hours.

Win, battle, beating, losing, winning, fighting, beating the fight, winning the fight, losing the battle, winning the battle, terminal, returned, cancer free, remission, cancer sufferer, cancer victim, cancer survivor, cancer thriver, cancer lifer, stricken with, suffering from, succumbed to, she lost her brave fight, she battled til, she was strong until, cancer was the winner, she’ll pull through.

I felt like the war had begun.

So I decided to do cancer my own way. Create a way that I could transform myself, and the people I love. I became so confident that I could address any situation, with my doctors, my nurses, my friends and family. I stood up for myself and made sure that people understood me.

You have more power in you now than ever before. It is going to change the rest of your life.

You’ve got this!
